Steam and COVID-19
According to Professor Bloomfield from UNLV, “to actively kill the virus [COVID-19] you need temperatures of around 60 degrees [Celsius]”. To be effective, it is important to break down the mucus surrounding the virus and kill it with temperature. Steam is the recommended process for sanitising a viral agent of any soft furnishings or carpet, by the Australian Government, International Cruise Liners Infectious Guidelines and also specifically against Covid-19 recommended by the United Kingdom Government.
“Several quarantine hotels are using steam cleaning as part of their cleaning and disinfection program on soft furnishings, beds, curtains and pillows. Steam cleaning is recommended by SafeWork Australia for fabric surfaces and carpets. Fabric surfaces can include lounges, beds, pillows, curtains and chairs. The Clinical Excellence Commission recommends that steam cleaning is an acceptable thermal disinfectant to use on soft furnishings that are unable to be disinfected with chemical disinfectants for low risk rooms.” NSW Government
Steam Australia’s quality dry steam machines produce steam at >170°C which penetrates deep into the surface leaving surfaces clean, sanitised and dry ready for immediate use. The high temperatures produced by using our steam machines, drastically reduces the contact time required to kill bacteria and viral agents, such as COVID-19.
It is important to deep clean and sanitise high touch points (HTPs) on hard and soft surfaces with the use of dry steam. This is to ensure infection control and is required multiple times per day especially after busy periods. HTP’s include but are not limited to, door handles, chairs, hand railings, sinks/taps, car furnishings and more.
Steam Australia works closely with hospitals in Australia and New Zealand in terms of infection prevention and control. See our range of dry steam cleaners here.
Microfibre and COVID-19
Preventing the spread of infection and disease starts with microbe removal. Steam Australia supply hospital grade disposable and reusable microfibre cloths to suit a range of applications and tools. Reynard Disposable Microfibre Cloths provide optimal infection prevention, superior performance and improved productivity. These cloths exhibit excellent bacterial removal capability, making them an ideal alternative for chemical free cleaning. ‘Ideal for use wet, dry or used with steam for the most efficient clean’ – Reynard. Rubbermaid HYGEN™ microfibre cloths are designed to remove 99.9% of microbes including C. diff, with water alone, and also remove 99.99% of human coronavirus OC43.
Steam and Microfibre
Steam and microfibre is a hospital approved method of cleaning removing up to 99.999% bacteria and pathogens. Dry pressurised steam with a boiler temperature above 170 degrees celsius and quality microfibre used in conjunction with each other provide an almost perfect cleaning combination to eliminate dirt and microorganisms.
The combination of steam and the latest and improved microfibre technology, paves the way to implement highly effective and efficient cleaning processes across all surfaces in any organisation.
